Is Darwin set to boom?
Well, after listening to Kerry Osborne last evening at Westpac, it sure looks that way. It appears Darwin is on the cusp of exciting economic times.
And, just what is the driver?
The “I” word.
Have you heard of it?
Don’t feel bad if you haven’t. Most people outside of Darwin don’t know about the “I” word.
“I” stands for INPEX. The INPEX gas project. $33 billion worth of project.
Everyone in Darwin seemed to be sitting on pins and needles waiting for the announcement. Would the project go ahead or not? Waiting and waiting.
Finally, on Friday the 13th – Jan 2012 – the long awaited announcement came. The project would proceed!
I’ll bet most of the people in Darwin breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing the good news … finally …
It was great to get some amazing insights about the Inpex project and it’s economic impact on Darwin from Kerry. He is very connected to the Darwin economic and political scene and therefore ideally placed to know all the “inside skinny” about what’s happening.
And, Kerry also discussed his new development project in Darwin, “The Avenue.” Featuring amazing state of the art technologies and many of the “creature comforts” people have come to expect – demand – in modern living, this new development is tipped to be another blazing success. Another success just like its predecessor, “Hastings Over Mindil.”
A big thank you goes out to Kerry for sharing with us last evening at Westpac. And, a big thank you to Kristian and the team at Westpac for providing such a nice venue and delicious “nibblies” and drinks!
